How did you spend Black Friday?  Did you manage to visit any of our local retailers?  My family was traveling this Black Friday, so I didn't get a chance to see the local pulse this year.  When I did get a chance to make a milk run, the parking lots were full and lots of people seemed to be out enjoying longer store hours. Now it is time for Cyber Monday. What do you have your heart set on?  Believe it or not, I am still not much of an online shopper. I really like to interact with products and people when I shop. However, I am going to check out the super cool Cyber Monday special from Modere.  Even though it is an online company, we have a local representative that I met at the Women's Fair in Crockett a few weeks ago  My husband, on the other hand, is sure to have a Cyber Monday list. We all have our own shopping styles, but I still challenge you to think about spending some of your holiday budget shopping in our LOCAL community this holiday season.  When we shop local, over 60% of money spent stays in our community as opposed to 0% when doing most online shopping...  If most of us can implement the principles of the 3/50 Project,  we could make a huge impact on our local economy. Simply pick 3 local businesses to patronize and spend a combined $50.  It is that simple. This week I plan on making a trip to our local independently owned grocery store, Grocery Outlet. Last weekend, for Small Business Saturday (sorry FB friends- it was actually Sunday - after being on vacation I got my days totally mixed up), I challenged myself to visit a few new to me local businesses. I really enjoyed looking at the amazing art quilt exhibits at Bay Quilts in Richmond.  On the way out of the parking lot, my son spotted Wheelhouse Academy of Baseball and of course, we stopped for him to hit a few ball.  Then we went on to Jenny K in El Cerrito, a local toy/gift store that had the most thoughtfully selected merchandise. We didn't stop there... We ended our local shopping tour at El Cerrito Natural, which has an amazing eatery and my son proclaims the best chicken pot pie ever.  What are some of your local favorites?  Let's talk about it on FB.  Hopefully, Macaroni Kid Richmond CA can help you discover more local businesses through our 2017 Holiday Guide and our Business Directory which will launch in 2018.  Not only does Macaroni Kid help you find your family fun, but it also helps to support local business.

Did you see the article about the Harlem Globetrotters coming to town?  I can not wait.  I have not seen the Globetrotters play since I was a kid and I still remember how amazing they were.  I can not wait to share this joyful event with my little ones.  Get your tickets soon, because the best seats sell out quickly.

My husband and I can't stop thinking about the Great Dickens' Christmas Fair.  Now I see the value in a season pass.  I could see going every weekend. That dreamy feeling of stepping back into another time while being immersed in the Victorian London street scene activated so many parts of our brains.  The decor, costumes, food, shops, interactions were unmatched and left us yearning for another visit.  If you haven't gotten your tickets to The Great Dickens' Christmas Fair yet, do not delay.  This production has a Macaroni Kid Richmond Thumbs Up.
